The Week Of The Nook: Apartment Therapy Feature!

Our little nook has had quite a bit of attention this week!

 

Young House Love featured it in their Reader Redesign series on Wednesday, and a friend shot me a note on Facebook this morning saying that it's on Apartment Therapy today.  Say WHAT?!?!

We have a long way to go before this kitchen reno is complete, but we are so happy to have this bright little spot as we tackle the rest of the space!

For those that have asked...yes, we would love to replace the floor tile.  But it's a pricey job and will be the last thing we tackle when the budget allows.  Until my dreams of hard wood are a reality, I think we'll paint the grout lines a lighter color to help open up the space.

The other common question has been about the bench cushions.

 

They are 2 inch foam that I covered with an old sheet as sort of a trial run.  I wanted to see how dirty they would get before I committed to a more permanent cover.  For the record, with 3 kids 5 years old and under, they get MESSY.  We've had a full cup of milk spill on them and soak through the foam.  So we're currently hunting for a laminated or waterproof/resistant fabric option with a bit more color to break up all that white.

I'm also considering sanding the paint off just the table top and staining it in a natural finish, in addition to some more art/accessories all around.  I would love to add a rug under the table, but did I mention I have 3 kids under 5?  Until they are keeping more food on their plates and less on the floor, that option will have to wait for another day.
